Welcome to the last weekend in June, Encinitas!

This weekend, we've got Leucadia's most joyful parade of the year, the return of Hansen's legendary tent sale, Encinitas’s free sustainability fest, and — just opened — a sim-racing lounge on the 101 that we got to test-drive at its grand opening. Buckle up!

🏄 The weekend at a glance

  • Weather. June Gloom into sun. Thursday ~70°, Friday ~71°, Saturday ~69° (a stray morning sprinkle possible, ~13%), Sunday ~68°. Lows in the low 60s. Light west wind.

  • Surf. Fun, manageable waves, with a friendly water temp of ~65–66°. Cleaner in the morning before the afternoon winds pick up. Get the latest from Surfline.

  • Tides. Big swings this weekend. Strong morning lows (Sat & Sun pre-dawn dip below zero) and a friendly daytime low around 2:22 PM Sunday (2.5 ft) — the easiest window for poking around the rocks at Cardiff Reef with kids.

  • Sunset. Saturday 8:02 PM. Sunday 8:01 PM. Pretty soon, we’ll be getting sunsets before 8:00pm again. Booo.

Hansen's Annual Fourth of July Tent Sale — Opening Saturday and running nine days, the OG Encinitas surf shop rolls out its biggest sale of the year: deep discounts on boards, wetsuits, apparel, and gear. A North County summer tradition. I always make sure to pick up a new pair of flip flops every year. 📍 Hansen Surfboards, 1105 S Coast Hwy 101 🕙 Opens Sat, 10 AM (daily through July 5) 💵 Free to browse; storewide discounts

3rd Annual Leucadia Pride — This Saturday, Generation One throws Leucadia's Pride celebration: a dance parade with live DJ sets, followed by a private after-party and a public after-after-party, all benefiting the North County LGBTQ Resource Center. The parade kicks off at 11 AM from the Grandview parking lot and heads down Neptune; at noon it lands at Leucadia Roadside Park for DJs, dancing, and Pride visibility along the 101; the 2 PM after-party (private location, RSVP required) brings a drag show, more dancing, and light bites; and at 5 PM there's an after-after party with live music at the Leucadian. RSVP for the after-party — capacity is limited. 📍 Parade starts at the Grandview parking lot → Neptune Ave → Leucadia Roadside Park 🕚 11 AM (parade) • 2 PM (after-party, RSVP required) 💵 Free

EcoFest Encinitas 2026 — Sunday afternoon, Encinitas Community Park hosts a free celebration of sustainability: live music, local beer and sustainable food vendors, and hands-on environmental exhibits. This year's theme: "Growing Greener Under The Sun." A great family-friendly day at the park while doing something good for the planet. We recommend biking there! 📍 Encinitas Community Park, 435 Santa Fe Dr 🕛 12–4 PM 💵 Free

🏁 This week's local highlight: Turn Zero Sim Racing is open on 101

Our official What’s Up, Encinitas VP of video game testing putting a Turn Zero sim through it’s paces.

Last week, we stopped by the grand opening of Turn Zero Sim Racing (timed, fittingly, to the sunrise finish of the 24 Hours of Le Mans) and the rigs are the real deal. If you’ve never done it before, it might take a lap or two to get used to the realism. These are super immersive. You’ll feel every turn. I’ve got a whole new level of respect for the drivers we see on TV on the weekends! It’s a perfect activity for an overcast day, a different kind of date night, or a rowdy group outing right downtown. It's tucked behind the Bier Garden, so you can run a few laps and grab a beer after. Congrats to the whole team on the grand opening!📍 687 S Coast Hwy 101, Suite 151 (behind the Bier Garden) 🕑 Tue–Thu 2–9, Fri 12–10, Sat 10–10, Sun 10–8 (closed Mon). Reservations recommended.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family-friendly picks

  1. EcoFest Encinitas (Sun, free) — Live music, food, and hands-on environmental exhibits at Encinitas Community Park. Easy, free, outdoors.

  2. Turn Zero Sim Racing — A fun rainy-or-gray-morning option for older kids and teens who'd love to take a few laps. The rigs are very realistic, like driving a real race car, so kids under 12 may have a hard time controling it. Check current rates on their site.

🔜 On the horizon

  • Hansen's Tent Sale runs through July 5 — plenty of time, but the best gear goes early.

  • Summer Nights Concerts at the Botanic Garden continue every Thursday through August 6 — next up, Honky Tonk Night with Brawley on July 2.

  • Fourth of July is around the corner — we'll have the full fireworks-and-festivities rundown in next week's edition.
