Happy Thursday, Encinitas!
The summer solstice is Saturday — that means it’s the longest day and the shortest night of the year and the official start of summer — which makes it a great day to hit the beaches and hang out in Leucadia for the Summer Fun on the 101 festival. Father's Day rolls in right behind it on Sunday and whether you're celebrating a dad, a father figure, the person who taught you to surf, or just taking the day as the first real Sunday of summer, there's plenty to do for everyone this weekend. June Gloom is still doing its thing (gray mornings, soft afternoons in the high 60s), perfect weather for everything going on. We've got a coral-reef film premiere that plants a tree with every ticket, a free DJ set on the beach in Cardiff, pop-punk and stand-up at the fair, and about six different ways to celebrate dads, father figures, and anyone marking the day their own way. Let's go!
🏄 The weekend at a glance
Weather. Classic late-June: gray mornings burning off to partly sunny afternoons. Highs right around 68° every day Thursday through Sunday. Tiny chance of drizzle Thu–Fri (20%), drying out for the weekend. Bring a layer for the evening events.
Surf. Swami's is running small and soft — chest-high sets in the 3–5 ft range on a long-period SSW swell, with onshore SW wind keeping things a bit textured through the day. Get the latest from Surfline.
Tides. Low tides have shifted to the morning — a 1.8 ft low at 8:29 AM Saturday and a 2.4 ft low at 9:16 AM Sunday. A rad morning is to grab a breakfast burrito at Pipes and then hit morning tide pooling at Cardiff Reef.
Sunset. Saturday 8:01 PM. Sunday 8:01 PM. It does not get later than this all year — celebrate with a DJ set at sunset on Friday. See the Featured section.

A fun Saturday-night out if you're toasting Dad the day before.
Dads + Donuts Storytime at The Forum (Sat morning) — For dads with littler kids, this is exactly what it sounds like. Free donuts and coffee plus stories and crafts at Rylee + Cru in the Forum.
Father’s Day Brunch at Pacific Coast Grill (Sunday morning) — They’ve got a great menu set for the day and you can’t beat the views, but what hooked me was the cocktails.
